New Publication Announcement!

In a recent study, USFWS LEMIS wildlife trade data were misinterpreted, and caused an over exaggeration of the known illegal trade in tigers that was reported. Please read our explanation and a description of pitfalls to avoid when analyzing these data: https://conbio.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/csp2.12723

The wildlife trade data many people are using in their studies is peppered with errors, biases, and interpretation pitfalls which often go unnoticed. I helped create these data with USFWS for many years, which is why I'm so interested in improving the way people now use and communicate these data. If not examined with a deeper understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, studies may mislead policy and conservation efforts. Contact me to speak more about this!

Also, if you're interested in my wildlife trade workshops (below) and have not emailed me yet, please contact me now! I'm just finishing the first module & my initial session will become available next month.

Wildlife Trade Data & Interpretation Workshops

Are you interested in workshops about understanding Wildlife Trade data, sustainability & Wildlife Crime? I will help you learn to navigate USFWS LEMIS wildlife trade records, which contain many pitfalls, scientific errors and inaccuracies that are often overlooked by academia & journalists. I'll start doing this through Zoom workshops once enough people have contacted me with interest. I will provide insight from my personal experiences gained over a decade of creating and interpreting wildlife trade data for USFWS, first as a wildlife trade law enforcement officer and then as a CITES Policy Specialist for the US Division of Management Authority. Please message me with your email address if you want to be notified when my first workshop soon becomes available.
